    Not very long-lasting

These Kitchen Aid manual can openers work OK when you first get them, but they don’t seem to last very long. If you repeatedly open cans with thick lids (take for instance, the Costco canned chicken breast meat) the cutting mechanism can’t stand up to it, and it bends. Then the little cutter wheel and the other (geared?) wheel don’t line up any more and it won’t open a can. Opening a can seems like it should be the easiest possible standard for a can opener, but noooooo… opening a can is too much of a challenge for these can openers. Or at least they can’t do it for very long. This problem might have started when Kitchen Aid outsourced its manufacturing to China, but I don’t know when that happened, so I won’t say that for sure. But here, in my humble household we have found the secret formula to outsmart a lazy can opener. Can I swear you to secrecy? Alright then. Before you actually squeeze the two handles together to puncture the lid of the can, start turning the crank. THEN squeeze the two handles together while you are turning the crank. That way the cutting wheel is already turning as it encounters the lid of the can, so (think of this as if you are viewing it sideways through a microscope lens, or perhaps from an air-traffic control tower) instead of hitting the lid of the can square-on, the cutter comes in on a gradual glide-path and cuts makes its initial cut gradually. It seems like putting too much thought into opening a can, but it does seem to work. And for all my complaining about the wimpiness of these can openers, I guess I am buying another one anyway. What other choice do I have?

    Adorable!

Bought to go with all my other Kitchen Aid appliances. Worth every penny, and quite fashionable!

    waste of money

    very poor product

  4. JackieCrownover

    Better than others

Better than other hand held openers I’ve tried, but still doesn’t stack up against older models I’ve owned. It opens some cans with ease; others are harder to open (handle is difficult to turn.

  5. judith mccourt

    Difficult to perforate the lid

I generally buy a new can opener about once a year as they tend to get dull. I thought this was a good brand name, but unlike previous openers you need to really bear down on the opener and hold it at an angle in order to get the can to open. Much more difficult to use than previous openers that I have owned.

  6. CNKJ

    Great gift

    Just as described

  7. B. Julig

    It works great!

I had an old can opener that was rusted and didn’t hardly work anymore. When I went grocery shopping I picked up a new one. Well, I could not hardly turn the handle! I was reading the reviews on Amazon and kitchen aid got great reviews. Also, I love pink! When I saw this one I couldn’t resist and I love it. It’s finally a pleasure to open a can instead of a terrible job.

  8. Ginny Kirkley

Finally a manual can opener that works!

I have gone the so many manual can openers that refused to open all but a few cans, so frustrating! This one has opened every can I have tried with ease. It is a little hard to turn when opening a can, but the effort is well worth the excellent result. What a successful find!

  9. Charisma Davis

    Good can opener

It’s a good manual can opener. Sometimes it skips and I have to change my position to get the can opener to continue opening the can.

    Rare find brings extreme joy

It’s not easy to find the Misty Blue Matte color KitchenAid accessories anywhere, so when I happened across the Gourmet MultiFunction Can Opener here on Amazon you bet your sweet potatoes I clicked that buy now button. It came quickly in original packaging, which I promptly tore it open faster than Coronavirus spreads. The oversized crank turns smoothly, so, so smoothly, cutting my cans open like a hot knife through butter and it’s easy to clean- just toss it in the dishwasher if you’d like. But wait!! There’s more! It also opens bottles. (Shut up, I know, right!?) Gourmet is an understatement- having a set of KitchenAid accessories that not only match each other but also my stand mixer? My kitchen deserves at least 2 Michelin stars, a spot on La Liste or all of the Gault Millau points.

    Great For Us Seniors!!!

My wife and I are older and not as strong as we used to be so we tried 2-3 other can openers and on really Large/Heavier cans, they’re pretty Hard to Turn/open. These have Great Grips, Better Feeling and Larger Handles, And they cut Really Great. Them seem heavier Duty than the others too. Going to order Another Pair Soon just in case we ever need another set and can’t find them again. We’re Both Really Happy with this KitchenAid Gourmet Open And PRAY this helps others who have limited strength in hands. Cans that’s too Large for our little electric opener, We go to these without dreading the job now. Thank You KitchenAid From 2 Seniors. 🙂

    Very nice product

Update: washed this 2 times and the round thingy in the middle that holds it together is rusting. So that is not good. Now a 3 star instead of a 4 star.It does what it says it will. I watched a YouTube video and found this to be the best for the money. My electric can opener is in the bin. It was creating shavings that… I used a large magnet to get them out of my peaches. Either way don’t want shavings in my food.So opted for a manual can opener for now. I needed one that was easy enough to use since I have an issue with my right hand. This one is pretty smooth and everyone in the house can use it. And for now that is all we want. And besides we can bring this one on camping trips in the RV. Very nice!Cons: The handles are a little large to be grabbing for us that good for others maybe not so much. Pinched my finger once.

Larger size , opens fans well, Hard to crank. Recommend the seller.

Good, larger size can opener, manual, that is easy to grip, holds cans securely and is fairly easy to crank. Might be a little bit hard to hold if you have small hands or arthritis. Does a good job holding the can securel and opening the can well. Again, slightly hard to turn the crank. The company that I bought it from had quick delivery and it was well packaged. Highly recommend them.

    Hard to find

Not exactly what I wanted but very close.I bought one for less money and the handles were better. This one is very good.Sharp cut and single cut with little effort.Blows away any 2 dollar can opener.Blows away any 5 dollar can opener.Bottom line: You need good can openers in the future. This one will last a long time.

  17. Polkmom

Who knew a can opener could make such a big difference?

I’ve never spent more that a couple dollars on a can opener… until now. I was so tired of having to readjust my cheap ones to get them to cut for a couple turns of the handle… only to have it slip off and have to start again. This thing is amazing. The handle turns so easily. It stays in place. It cuts quickly and smoothly. I used to feel like it was “work” to open a can… but no more. This glides easily and makes it a breeze to open a can. Extremely happy with my purchase.

    Easy to use!

I have been fighting with the old can opener for some time thinking my wrists were getting week. I finally decided to buy a new one. I looked at the handle and thought it looked sturdy and easy to use. I am shocked how easy it is to open a can…like cutting through soft butter. This KitchenAid can opener is worth every penny it cost and looks like it will last for years! Highly Recommend it, love the red colored handles too!

Feels sturdy but got no clue how long it’ll last

So, My can openers typically last for 2 years, this feels sturdy, but can’t vouch for how long it’ll last. It was on sale for 15, but you can usually pick up 1 for 5$ that’ll last for 2 years but then fail unexpectedly. My hope is the more expensive one will last longer, but its a bit ridiculous to review a product whose rival won’t fail for at least 2 years at 1/6th the price.

Finally a handheld can opener that work !!!

I was so frustrated with asking my husband to open a can and also watched him struggle !! I went on the hunt price at this point to important !! I also love that it it red it shows up in the drawer !! Highly recommend best $20 spent !!!

  23. Kelly

    Love the color

Not much I can really say, it is just a can opener. It doesn’t have any noticeable flaws. It opens cans without much effort. I purchased it because I really liked the color.

  24. Ken M

    A solid can opener

And I do mean a solid, heavy piece of kitchen equipment! Gives a solid grip and easily opens cans. The bottle opener is handy, too.

  25. mmorris

    Great can opener.

So easy to use. Never had one like this!

  26. Joan Legue

    this is great

very nice and easy to use.

  27. Josh Kemp

    Satisfied

Works perfect for me so far after a week. It could possibly be a bit bulky and heavy for people with smaller hands and/or other issues

  28. E!

Slightly on the large size, but work Great.

This is an excellent can opener.- The grip is secure- Comfortable to hold- Relatively sturdy. There is a little bit of sideways give in the handles because they’re long.- Long handles give excellent leverage. This means less effort is needed to pierce the can and hold on to it.- Large rotator handle makes it easier to open cans with less force.

    Easy to open a can

Makes opening a can easy and soft. Glad I bought

  31. Steven Rapp

Smooth stainless steel works. Toss your drug store version.

Smooth functioning can opener. Blade made out of stainless steel NOT cheap chrome. Much sturdier than the ones I’ve been buying at the local drugstore. Caution: hand wash only. For some reason, the red handled version is six dollars more; but it is the same opener.

  32. Angela A

    Good as expected from KitchenAid

I have lots of other KitchenAid stuff but my original can opener broke. I replaced it with this one. It’s very sturdy and nice, I just wish it was the same original pink as the rest of my stuff from this brand

  33. Lis K

    Cuts like butter.

This is the most amazing can opener ever. Easy to hold, use and clean. Worth every dollar. I anticipate I will have this forever.

  34. SheinaDora

Easy to use, sometimes takes a few times to get it attached properly

Good product don’t use it if you have a ton or cans to open you will lose your patience and start questioning every decision you’ve ever made

  35. Spring

Doesn’t live up to KitchenAid standards I’m used to!

I bought a replacement for a KitchenAid can opener we had for over 15 years. This one unfortunately doesn’t work any better than one that’s inexpensive at any store. I’m highly disappointed. You have to put pressure on the handles to get the blade to advance.

  36. Slim2u

Kitchen Aid Hits another Home Run

I have not found a single product that Kitchen Aid manufactures that is not top notch. This can opener is no exception. It does exactly what it is supposed to do–open cans. Plus, it helps one do so with minimal effort. I highly recommend it to those looking for a good can opener that can be put in the dishwasher to be cleaned and then stored in a drawer to take up minimal space.

  37. Seahorse23

    Quality

this canopener is well-built and the handle is wide enough for a good grip. It needs a bit of strength to turn, but I’m not a good judge as I have weak hands. I expect this opener to last a long time.

  38. Dirk R Latvala

Easy to use, I like the longer handles

Easy to use, I like the longer handles, Easy to use.

    Works As It Should

I’ve owned numerous can openers over the decades and finally decided to get a KitchenAide. I’m impressed with the quality and ease of use. Most can openers end up breaking over time due to their design. The KitchenAide is designed differently and I don’t foresee the breaking problems of the other brands.

    A great can opener

This can opener is easy you use. Cuts really and with ease. Best opener I ever owned

    Got this for big cans

I have an electric can opener and 3 other can openers but they wouldn’t open extremely large cans. This one did. It was easy to hold and easy to turn. I kept the electric can opener and this pretty red one but got rid of the other 3. If they aren’t sharp you don’t need them. This Kitchen Aid one is this best I have had.

    Best can opener ever.

After years of using the old metal crank ones, I switched to this. Easy to hold, easy to use. If you don’t have electric, this is the choice.

  44. KR

Best can opener I’ve ever had!!!

I’ve wasted so much money over the years on can openers that don’t work well or don’t work at all!Electric or manual, they’ve all fallen short of my hopes/expectations.But THIS can opener is AMAZING! The cut is smooth & easy…really easy. It’s very sturdy. It’s also very pretty. I finally have a can opener I actually look forward to using!

    Lasted one year

It is nice. Sturdy feel and great at opening cans. Then it broke apart revealing a plastic connector that snapped apart exactly one year into owning. I’ve always owned crappy can openers and splurged on this one. My crappy ones have never broken. I will replace with a different brand.

Direct Drive Never Miss Reliable Classic Can Opener

I have been using the highly touted OXO steel can opener and never noticed a problem or hitch on opening cans. Until recently; a couple classic tuna and small-sized cans with mushrooms. What is this…a paper jam and/opening from the bottom. I any even it was quite an unnecessary wrestle to finally get 4 cans opened sufficiently to get the respective contents into a couple of containers. Thanks when the Amazon search began to find the no-frills Direct Drive hand can-opener! Fortunately reviewers have done their civic duty and wrote clear descriptions of can openers. This Kitchen Aid was the obvious choice and I have not been disappointed. As the title of this review indicates it a Direct Drive Never Miss Reliable Classic Can Opener! Fullstop!!

    Love the color but pricey

I bought the pistachio color to match other kitchen items I have. I love the color. I just wish these weren’t as expensive as they are. But of course I still had to buy it anyway lol

    Works well, didn’t last

The turn knob mechanism stripped and won’t open cans after just 8 months. I hoped not buying the “cheaper” option would mean it’d last longer.

    Highly recommend.

Ordered three of these can openers. Two (2$ for me and one (1) as a gift. They are east to use with very little effort. Seen to be well made. It never fail to completely cut the tops off the cans. Not like the openers I had before whereby the lids would be partially uncut.

  54. Reviews from a Real Person

    Pretty…but that’s it

How did we lose the art of making can openers that work like the old ones? This can opener is very difficult to actually open cans—even my husband has trouble with it. The one I bought in college in the 80s is a breeze to use. This one is close to worthless. I would have sent it back but my other one was a the lake cottage.

  55. Tracy Hightower

It’s so easy to turn. I love the color too.

It’s easy to turn and works well for my arthritic hand. I’m very pleased with this purchase.

  56. Jone

    Best can opener

Best can opener I’ve ever had. Cuts the can quickly, and the cutting around the can is easy and very smooth. Love the over sized turning knob. Doesn’t break my nails. A little pricey BUT I’ve had cheaper ones, and they do not compare. Very happy with purchase.

    Bought 2, Both Broke

I bought one in Dec 2020 and it broke. I liked the color and comfort of the handle so I bought another one in April 2021.Both broke in the same way started developing rust in areas that can be dried easily when in tact. The handle started spinning without turning the wheel then the handle popped out a bit and eventually fell off along with a spring.I am very confident in my can opener abilities so I know I wasn’t using it incorrectly and I never washed them in the dishwasher. Only by hand and dried them thoroughly. This can opener would be perfect for me if it lasted longer and didn’t have to be replaced every year.

  59. Timothy L. Hall

    ….very nice manual can opener…..

I’ve only owned this product for a few weeks, but we are pleased with its performance and reasonable cost. I recommend this product for everyday use in the kitchen.
